Classic Car Day - NOT amateur radio

Every year, the museum next door holds a classic car day. It was filled with vintage cars and motorbikes.

Like radio amateurs, most are geeks!! A very good turn out. The weather was warm and dry.

New page on my website - NOT amateur radio

A few moments ago I added a new page on my website about our local museum and windmill.

See https://sites.google.com/view/g3xbm4/home/non-amateur-radio/burwell-museum .

In the near future I need to add a page on the FT-710 transceiver.

Our village museum - NOT amateur radio

OK, I am biased!

We live next door to one of the best local museums in the UK. It is vast and there is a huge variety of things to explore over many buildings including our 200 year old, fully restored, windmill which is just a tiny bit of it.

See https://burwellmuseum.org.uk/ .

Museum open again - NOT amateur radio

Yesterday, after what has seemed a long winter, our local museum and windmill next door reopened. The weather was sunny and pleasant. Parking near our house is not usually an issue. It was yesterday!!

Our local museum - NOT amateur radio

This weekend was the last time our museum was open until Easter. Today was a free day (no admission charge). Although the day started wet, it was dry most of the time and attendance was good.

The museum is run by volunteers and is on of the best local museums in the UK.

Classic Car Day - NOT amateur radio

Today is the classic car day at our local museum next door. I have never seen so many!

Vehicles ranged from car and scooters to army vehicles. Lots of people too.

Kindness - NOT amateur radio

We live right next door to our village windmill and museum. We heard today that a very kind man from the USA who was evacuated into our village from London in 1941 has just made a very generous donation to the museum. He is now 88 years old and he still thinks Burwell is the nicest place in the world despite having widely travelled in his lifetime. What's more, one of the museum founders remembers sitting next to him at school!

Museum cafe duty (Sunday afternoon) - NOT amateur radio

The photo shows me on duty in our local museum cafe yesterday with my grandson before he returned home. My wife and I share duties. The museum is just across the road from us.

Museum Fete - NOT amateur radio

Yesterday we had rain and thunder forecast. However it was dry with no thunder!

Our local museum next door had a summer fete which was successful. The photo shows the sea-shanty singers in action. They were very good.

Near normal?

Local museum - NOT amateur radio

The local museum across the road from us has old fashioned dial telephones. The photo shows 3 of our grandchildren trying to ring each other: they are not used to phones which have to be rotated to dial a number!

Museum - NOT amateur radio

Yesterday our local museum and windmill opened for the first time this year. We were on duty in the kiosk where we take entry money and sell some gifts as shown in the photo.

We live next door to the windmill and museum.

New museum shed - NOT amateur radio

Funny how being locked down you get excited by silly things! Years ago we would go on overseas holidays, but I guess we just have to wait....

Today, we had major excitement when a new shed was delivered to our local village museum. Imagine that! A new shed!!! 😄 Gosh!

A lorry drove up and lots of helpers were on hand to help erect it. A year ago this would have been ignored!

A year ago - NOT amateur radio

A year ago things were quite different. There was no Covid-19 around and our local museum next door had a vintage car weekend.

Open Thursdays - NOT amateur radio

After several months of remaining closed, our local museum is open again on Thursdays.

As all sections cannot guarantee social distancing, they have decided to open parts only and ask for donations.

It really is a splendid place and most visitors are surprised how good, and how big, it is.

What a difference! - NOT amateur radio

A year ago our local museum had its fete (see photo). Until August 6th this year it has remained closed. They are reopening Thursdays only for a few hours with donations only. Normally they open Thursdays, Sundays and bank holidays. It is staffed largely by volunteers.

Museum Party - NOT amateur radio

At the end of the season, our local museum next door has a party for volunteers. I am on the left.

It is one of the best local museums in the UK. It heavily depends on volunteers. Many people think it is just the windmill, but it goes on and on!

Old Renaults - NOT amateur radio

Last weekend several old Renault cars visited our local museum. They were quite a sight.

Grandchildren - NOT amateur radio

As usual over Easter, we have been busy with grandchildren.

Our local museum has just (today) reopened, so we went across there earlier.

The photo shows one of the grandchildren in the museum next to an Austin 7.
